CARRY ON is an interactive Augmented Reality art project by Sharon Paz dealing with past experiences of migration, forced and chosen. The project captures the unique Synagogue space with its historical wall layers creating an interactive journey based on stories of both the Jewish families that lived in the village and contemporary migrants.
CARRY ON was initiated by Museumsverein Synagoge Staudernheim as part of the exhibition “On the move – Staudernheims Jewish community in the ups and downs of migration”.
The exhibition will open to the public in the former synagogue in Staudernheim on May 29, 2022. For more information, please visit

MUSEUMSVEREIN SYNAGOGE STAUDERNHEIM
The former synagogue in Staudernheim was vandalized in 1938, but not set on fire as it directly bordered neighboring houses. During the Nazi era, the building was abused as a Wehrmacht Casino and home of the Hitler Youth, later in 1945, it was temporarily used as a poorhouse, garage, and finally as a junkyard.
It was Raymond Wolff (1946 New York — 2021 Berlin), the son of a Jewish family from Staudernheim, who took care of the battered building. Growing up in the USA, he avoided being drafted into the Vietnam War by fleeing to the home country of his parents. Here he traced, researched, and preserved lost stories, the forgotten fates of Staudernheim’s Jewish community and founded the “Museumsverein Synagoge Staudernheim e.V.”.
We dedicate the project to Raymond Wolff, who died in the midst of its making.
Exhibition and App are based on his intensive research and archival collection of the Jewish history of Staudernheim.
